On designing Follow the White Satyr
Inspiration:
The journey began with a spark of inspiration drawn from the iconic white rabbit scene in “The Matrix”, which, in turn, is drawing inspiration from “Alice in Wonderland”. I saw an opportunity to rekindle this iconic cinematic moment and replace the white rabbit with Diobar’s satyr logotype. This alteration effectively reshaped the narrative, inviting viewers to embark on a unique adventure (much like Neo or Alice) by challenging their innate sense of curiosity, that properly starts their journey and changes their lives forever.
Visual Storytelling:
At the core of the design lies the image of a dark-haired young girl (much like Dujour in “the Matrix”) navigating the vibrant streets of Barcelona, her shoulder adorned with a curious “satyr tattoo.” She is seen from the back only, thus creating expectation and interest. The street is a typical one of the historical centre of Barcelona, dark but colourful even during daytime. The ambience and colours are close to the ones in the movie, without leading to an obvious connection. It is letting people know that whatever the goal of the “game” is, it is located in this city. The whole visual represents individuality and artistic expression, urging viewers to delve deeper into the narrative.

Interactivity:
To enhance viewer engagement, modern technology was integrated into the design, by embedding a prominent QR code within the artwork. This code acts as an interactive gateway, offering a convenient means for individuals to explore the rich offerings of the venue, leading to Diobar’s concert programming on their website.

Execution:
The main image (background) was created with Adobe Photoshop. Various filters were applied in order to create a familiar but mysterious atmosphere. The poster composition was created in Adobe Illustrator. To the main image were added the above-mentioned QR code and a simple message: “follow the white satyr” written in bold white letters. The chosen typographical font is Forma DJR (by David Jonathan Ross), a revival of Aldo Novarese’s late mid-century neo-grotesque for the Italian Nebiolo foundry. This fusion of elements, symbolism, and narrative, were all tailored to engage and captivate the target audience.
The Invitation:
In essence, “Follow the White Satyr” extends a warm invitation to discover the vibrant music world of Diobar Concert Hall. It beckons individuals to follow the enigmatic satyr, enticing them with the promise of a memorable and immersive experience.
